Nursery | Carnforth School
Thursday 1st December
Autumn 2, Week 5
This week in maths we have looked at small, medium and large items. We have been able to sort Christmas items into sizes and have been able to measure items using cubes. We know the key words tall, short, small and big.
We have also been learning about the Nativity story this week and have really enjoyed learning actions to help us remember the story.
We have started rehearsing for our Nativity performance in the hall this week - our singing is wonderful! We can't wait to perform to our families in the coming weeks.

Autumn 2, Week 4
This week has whizzed by in the blink of an eye but what a fun week it has been!
We have been learning about instructions. We read the story Press Here and loved joining in with the instructions. We then set instructions on the Bee bots!
In RE, we started our brand new topic, Birthdays. We talked about what birthdays are and we found out some people have already celebrated a birthday in Nursery this year. We decided to have our own Nursery party so were very busy writing party invitations and making birthday cards and party food! We loved playing games too!
To finish the week we started to get ready for the start of advent. We listened to Christmas carols whilst putting our Christmas Tree up. The children were so helpful adding baubles to the tree.
A little reminder that school is closed to children tomorrow (Friday 25) for a staff training day. We hope you have a lovely weekend.

Autumn 2, Week 3
This week we have celebrated anti-bullying week in school. Nursery children wore odd socks on Monday and were fantastic at sorting scenarios into friendly and unfriendly. We know it's important to be kind all of the time.
In our topic lessons we have been looking at houses from around the world, including igloos and mud huts. We talked about how igloos wouldn't be good for us to live in because our country is not cold enough.
In maths, we have been looking at number patterns. We are getting confident at recognising more and less and are brilliantly using a ten frame to help us count out items.
This week we have completed our RE topic, 'Welcome'. We looked at how babies are welcomed into God's family and role-played a baptism. We were great at remembering the tricky key words.
We are also really looking forward to celebrating Children in Need tomorrow. Keep your eyes peeled for our 'spotacular' t-shirt design.
Have a lovely weekend.

Autumn 2, Week 2
In Nursery this week we have been looking at journey stories. We have enjoyed reading We're Going on a Bear Hunt and have looked at different scenarios mentioned in the story. We were brilliant at describing the long swishy grass and the squelchy mud!
We have continued looking at 2D shapes this week and have been finding ways to sort them, including by colour and size. We know we have lots of shapes in our environment so maybe you could ask us to name and short some shapes at home.
We have also continued our RE topic, Welcome. We enjoyed There's a Baby in Mummy's Tummy and discussing how we have welcomed babies into our families and what we do to show they are welcome.
Well done to everyone for another super week!
Have a wonderful weekend.

Autumn 2, Week 1
It has been lovely to welcome the nursery children back into school after the half term break. We have had such an exciting first week back.
In maths, we have been looking at 2D shapes. We are super at naming simple 2D shapes and we even know some of the properties! We have been working hard to find shapes in our environment as well as using shapes to make patterns and pictures.
In English, we have enjoyed reading The Gruffalo. We have discussed the different homes the animals live in and how that compares to where we live.
We have also enjoyed taking part in Commando Joe's this week. Our focus was self-awareness. We explored different emotions and looked at different ways to help ourselves when we are feeling sad, angry or worried.
Have a lovely weekend.

Autumn 1, Week 7
Thursday 20 October
We can't believe it is the end of half term 1! All of the children have settled in brilliantly and we are so proud of everything they have achieved.
In RE this week, we started our new topic 'Welcome'. We remembered how we were welcomed into Nursery and talked about different ways to welcome people including smiling, waving and cuddling.
In English, we have continued looking at Nursery Rhymes. Our particular favourite has been Round and Round the Garden. We loved watching teddy fly off the parachute!
In Maths, we have worked really hard looking at different amounts of items and finding out which has most, and which has the least. We used a tens frame to help us count.
We hope you all have a lovely half term, and we are looking forward to seeing you back in Nursery on Monday 31 October.

Autumn 1, Week 6
Thursday 13 October
What an exciting week we have had in Nursery this week!
This week we have been visited by the Teddy Bear Hospital. All of the children were able to give their teddy bears a 'consultation' and we learned lots about how germs spread, how to brush our teeth properly and even how to listen to a heartbeat with a stethoscope!
Also this week, we have been taking part in the National Gallery's Take One Picture initiative. We have been looking at Claude-Joseph Vernet's artwork, 'A Shipwreck in a Stormy Sea'. We loved looking at the picture and pointing out what we could see. We then created our own stormy weather picture! We have had so much fun!
We can't wait for another fun week next week.

Autumn 1, Week 5
Thursday 6 October
Well, another week has flown by in a blink of an eye! We have had a super week in Nursery.
On Friday we celebrated World Space Day. The children had a great time exploring the space tuff trays and mark making on the shiny space surfaces. We were also treated to a virtual story experience called 'Fly Me To The Moon'.
The children loved singing spaced theme songs - Five Little Men in a Flying Saucer was our favourite.
We can't wait for another fantastic week next week.

Autumn 1, Week 4
Nursery have had a great week this week. We have been learning all about autumn and even went on an autumn hunt to Forest School! We found lots of conkers, pine cones and leaves that had fallen off the trees and changed colour!
In maths, we have been looking at numbers 1-5. We have been recognising the numeral and looking at numicon.
We have also enjoyed reading 'After the Storm' by Nick Butterworth.
Have a lovely weekend!

Autumn 1, Week 3
What a brilliant week we have had in Nursery this week. It has been so lovely to see the children grow in confidence this week as they are becoming increasingly familiar with their surroundings.
In maths, we have been practising counting verbally and using objects. We are starting to recognise our numerals to five and have played lots of games to help us practice this. We have continued singing our counting songs too - 5 Little Speckled Frogs is our favourite!
In literacy, we have been reading My Family. We know families are all different and we have been terrific talking about who is in our family.
Thank you to the families who brought in family pictures this week, it really helped our learning.
Have a lovely weekend.

Wow! What a super week we have had in Nursery. All of the children have settled in brilliantly and are already becoming more confident in our environment.
We have had lots of fun in the water and sand and have made lots of magnificent pictures in the creative area.
Well done to all of our wonderful children! We can't wait to see you next week!
