RE: In RE this week, we have come to the end of our topic based on, ‘Beginnings’. We celebrated our learning journey by taking part in a Class Liturgy. The children were very thoughtful and shared some lovely prayers with the group.

Tomorrow is World Multiplication Day and we are really looking forward to taking part in the competition across school!

Well done for all of your hard work Year 2!

Week 3

Another busy yet wonderful week for the Year 2’s. Here’s what we’ve been doing:

English: In English this week, we have come to the end of our fiction topic based on the text, ‘The Pirate Next Door’. The children have written fantastic stories describing how the character felt when the pirates moved in next door. The children have done a fantastic job when adding expanded noun phrases and conjunctions to their writing. Well done Y2!

Science: In Science this week, we have enjoyed a visit to the forest school area to explore what living-things we can find in a range of micro-habitats. We made lots of observations about the creatures and discussed why we found many of the bugs under rocks and logs. The children loved visiting forest school and we look forward to our next visit!

RE: The children have been very thoughtful when learning about beginnings. On Wednesday, we read different psalms, discussed the meaning behind them and then wrote our own psalm. We then explored the beauty and wonder all around us and listed ways in which we can help the world to remain full of awe and wonder.

This week, we re-launched house points across school. We are so excited for the St Charles’ Elections to take place tomorrow so that we can vote for our House Captains! Well done to all of the Year 6s taking part.

Well done for another great week Year 2!

Week 2

Year 2 have had another great week. Here’s what we’ve been doing:

Maths: In Maths this week, we have been continuing our Place Value topic. We have been partitioning in different ways, ordering numbers and comparing numbers. We have also made different representations of two-digit numbers and compared them.

English: In English this week, we have started our fiction topic based on the book, ‘The Pirate Next Door’. The children have been including expanded noun phrases in their writing to describe both the characters and the different settings in the story. I can’t wait to read their final piece!

History: This week we have continued our topic learning about our local area. We have compared photographs from the past and the present and discussed both the similarities and differences between them. We then ordered key events on a timeline to show when certain buildings were built in Newcastle.

Well done Year 2!

Welcome back!

Welcome back Everyone!

It is so lovely to have all the children back in school. We have really missed them! The Year 2’s have done some fantastic work this week. Here’s what we’ve been doing:

RE: In RE this week, we have started our new topic learning about beginnings. We discussed the different beginnings that we have each had and then we learnt all about the beginning of the world and God’s creation. We then made some beautiful spiritual art with watercolours and oil pastels.

English: In English this week, we have explored a range of pirate poems. We have annotated the features of different styles of poetry and described the characters using adjectives. We can’t wait to write our own pirate poems tomorrow!

Maths: In maths this week, we have started our place value topic. We have been using concrete resources to recognise the tens and ones in a two-digit number and we have also been learning about how to write numbers in words. We are learning how to partition numbers next week!

It has been lovely getting to know all of the children this week and I can’t wait to see all of their great work this year!

See you on Monday,

Miss Thomas
