COLLECTIVE WORSHIP

LENT
Lent begins on Ash Wednesday. The children in upper key stage 2 attend the local parish mass to start our lent journey.
Lent is the period of six weeks (40 days, not including Sundays) leading up to Easter, the most important festival in the Christian calendar. For those of us already baptised, it is a time to focus on premises made in Baptism and to seek Reconciliation, so as to celebrate Easter worthily.
Mini Vinnies, School Council and Faith in Action groups in school, prepare sacred spaces during Lent for reflection and prayer.

Rosary Club
Miss Johnstone from the parish comes to school each week to pray the Rosary with the children.
The children have learnt how to pray the Rosary and have shared this with their families. It is lovely to welcome Miss Johnstone to pray with us.
Our Parish
Fr. Michael Weymes is our Parish Priest at St. Charles' Church.

Celebration of the Word
RIGHTS RESPECTING: Article 14 - I have the right to have my own thoughts and beliefs and to choose my religion with my parents' guidance.
'People who see you at your best will thank God.'
Based on Matthew 6:16
The school day is punctuated with prayer.
Children participate in daily prayer. The school week begins with Celebration of the Word led by the leadership team. This is based on the Sunday Gospel readings of the churches year. Each class contributes to this prayerful experience, by writing their own bidding prayers to be shared with the school community. Each class is given a Monday mission, where they are inspired by scripture to act positively and live out the mission.
The teaching staff team lead Celebration of the Word for Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 each Wednesday. This follows the church liturgical year.
Each week, children pray with their class. This may be meditation, creative prayer, prayer journaling or leading a short celebration of the word. At the end of their RE units of work, parents have the opportunity to attend the end of unit prayer experience with their children.
School groups e.g. Mini Vinnies, School Council and Laudato Leaders plan and prepare prayer spaces for the children to visit during Lent and advent.
We aim to provide everyone in our school community with the opportunity to a wide range of spiritual experiences. We have a quiet space in school our Muslim children and staff can use to pray during the school day.

Pupil led Celebration of the Word
Children lead Celebrations of the Word for their peers and families. The children use Pray2gether resources to help them prepare their celebration of the word.

Monday Missions
'Following Jesus' footsteps in our living and learning.'
Each week starts with a Celebration of the Word together as a school community.
Mrs Nealings, Mrs Binney or Miss Thomas lead school prayer each Monday. This Celebration of the Word, is based on the previous Sunday Gospel reading.
Children write the prayers of intercession for each week, and sometimes they plan spontaneous prayer.
As we go forth, we all take away a mission from the Celebration of the Word. We are inspired by scripture we have heard and what Jesus has taught us. As a class community, we act on our homework and live out our mission over the course of the week. We share our missions with the school community the following week.
